WHAT IS ‘SOUTH CUMBRIA KINGFISHERS’?

This is a partnership of all the Angling Clubs in South Cumbria that have junior sections. We have all got together to put on a joint programme of coaching sessions and competitions for the young anglers from each of our clubs.

WHAT IS SOUTH CUMBRIA KINGFISHERS FOR?
It is there to help you learn to fish. We provide coaching sessions, competitions and other events. You can go to as many as you like or none at all – it’s entirely up to you. But if you do get involved you will learn to catch loads more fish, meet lots of people with the same hobby and make some new friends. You should also have some great fishing days on all sorts of different fisheries - and have a lot of fun!

WHAT IF I’VE NEVER BEEN FISHING BEFORE?
It doesn’t matter if you’re an absolute beginner or if you already know how to fish. We will show you how to do it or how to improve the skills you already have. Everyone can take part at any level. We can even provide you with fishing tackle until you are able to get your own.

CAN I GO TO THINGS ON MY OWN?
Yes. All Kingfisher events and coaching session are run by trained and qualified fishing coaches. There will be plenty of them to help you and the events are safe, friendly and well organised. But if a parent or guardian would like to come with you that’s absolutely no problem - we might even start them fishing! Or you could always get a friend to join as well.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN THINGS ARE GOING TO TAKE PLACE?
Take a look at the full list of 2009 Events. This gives you the dates, times and the fishery where the event will take place. We also send our members regular emails with news, pictures and information and we will remind you when things are due to take place. Keep an eye on this website for up to date news. All the events take place at weekends or are planned to take place in the school holidays.

DO I HAVE TO LET YOU KNOW IF I’M COMING TO AN EVENT?
Yes. We need to know beforehand how many members will be there so that we can make sure we have enough coaches and other people to help. We will ask you to let us know by email or telephone at least a week before

ARE THERE ANY RULES?
Yes. There are always fishing rules for each place you go fishing, mainly to do with looking after the fish and keeping the fisheries in good order. There is also a Code of Conduct for all Kingfisher members. It is designed to make sure everyone is safe and that everyone can enjoy their fishing in a happy, relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

CAN I DO BOTH SORTS OF FISHING?
Yes, or you can stick with the one you prefer. Kingfisher members can take part in trout and coarse fishing and you will get the chance to fish on rivers and from boats as well as on still waters. You can coarse fish, fly fish, river fish, boat fish, pike fish – all sorts!
.
OK, GOT ALL THAT – WHEN CAN I START?
The first events take place in April and go right through the summer. They are either at weekends or during school holidays. Check out the programme to find out which ones are going to suit you best – and get booked up straight away.
