KINGFISHERS 2009 EVENTS PROGRAMME
There is some great fishing lined up for 2009 with sessions for both absolute beginners and for our more experienced and older members. This year brings some new events such as overnight fishing, river and boat fishing plus a couple of famous angling celebrities turning up – and of course our competitions and barbecue.
We can provide all the equipment and tackle you will need but if you have your own by all means bring it along. All events are free except where noted
Remember that (apart from the supervised fishing days) you have to book your place.
Fly Fishing 2009
29th March. Casting session at Ghyll Head, 10.00am – 1.00pm
Get the season off to a good start by brushing up on your casting skills or if you have just started this is the first step.
4th April Beginners session at Stans Pond 10.00am – 1.00pm
The first of two sessions for either new anglers or our younger Kingfishers. We’ll take you through the basics – and you are guaranteed to catch your first trout
11th April Beginners session at Stans Pond 10.00am – 1.00pm
The second beginner’s session, if you couldn’t make the first one, or another chance to build on what you have already learnt.
18th April Stan’s Pond supervised fishing. 10.00am – 2.00pm
Just come along and fish. There will be a couple of instructors on site to help you if needed but mostly it’s a chance for you to start working things out for yourself.
25th April Stan’s Pond supervised fishing. 10.00am – 2.00pm
Same as the previous session
3rd May Stan’s Pond supervised fishing 10.00am – 2.00pm
The last session at Stan’s – fishing will be getting harder, but you should be fishing better!
17th May Boat Fishing Esthwaite 9.00am to 4.00pm
This new event is for more experienced members and those who can cast reasonably well. There will be two members to a boat along with an instructor. He’ll manage the boat and take you through the different techniques for this exciting day. Limited to ten places so book early.
24th May Kentmere supervised fishing 9.30am – 1.30pm
A day at Kentmere for wily brown trout. Different fish and different techniques.
31st May High Fairbanks supervised fishing 9.30am -2.30pm
We always have a great day at High Fairbanks with loads of quality fish being caught. Last year 9 members caught 64 fish on the day! Dry fly usually does the business.
7th June Ghyll Head. Casting, Paul Procter 9.30am – 12.30pm
Paul is one of the Britain’s top anglers, a well known contributor to all the fishing magazines and brilliant caster. This session is for our more experienced members and a chance to really work on more advanced casting techniques for distance and accuracy.
13th June River Fishing. Kirkby Stephen 10.00am – 2.00pm
A change from stillwaters into the wider world of river fishing. We’ll show you enough of the basics to get started and catch wild trout from a river.
27th June Fly Fishing Competition. Bigland Tarn 9.00 – 1.00pm
Our last fly fishing event for the year and a chance to make a name for yourself . This year’s competition is at Bigland – a lovely fishery with excellent fishing to dry fly and nymph.
Coarse Fishing 2009.
20th June Beginners session Atkinson’s Tarn 10.00am – 1.00pm
For new members just starting and for younger members. We’ll take you through the first steps on your way to becoming experts!
4th July Beginners session Atkinson’s Tarn 10.00am – 1.00pm
More of the same with the chance to try your hand at different methods – or learn the basics if you missed the first session.
11th July Atkinson’s Tarn supervised fishing 10.00am – 2.00pm
Fish on your own with instructors on hand to help if needed.
18th July Atkinson’s Tarn supervised fishing 10.00 – 2.00pm
As the previous session
25th July Carp Masterclass Atkinson’s Tarn 10.00am – 4.00pm
A full day devoted to catching big carp and the techniques, rigs and baits to go with it. This session will be run by top local carp anglers. Standby for some big fish! Aimed at more experienced members
1st August Castle Head supervised fishing 10.00am – 1.00pm
A change of venue. Castle Head is fast becoming a great fishery with some cracking carp and plenty of tench, roach, perch and bream.
8th August Atkinson’s Tarn. Pole Masterclass 10.00am – 1.00pm
A match winning method – and more to it than you think. We will have top match anglers there to guide you through the ins and outs. Suitable for more experienced members.
15th August Night fishing Atkinson’s Tarn 6.00pm – 9.00am
Are you up for this! The biggest fish come out to feed under the cover of darkness – to catch them you have to be there – all night. We’ll have plenty of instructors, fishing bivvies and even bacon butties at 6 o’ clock in the morning, All you have to do is stay awake!
23rd August Competition and Barbecue. Atkinson’s 1.00pm – 5.00pm
The final event and a great social occasion for all our members (and their long suffering Mums and Dads). Prizes for everyone who takes part and of course the biggest burgers in Cumbria!
